He (Ben Franklin) always speaks the thing he means, which he is never afraid or ashamed to do.”

In matters of government, perhaps we could all take a lesson from Dr. Franklin.

There is much discussion of Thomas Jefferson about his most personal religious beliefs. There are three books that shed intricate details, that show his correspondence with his best friend, Benjamin Rush: These three books are: The Jefferson Bible, Selections by Thomas Jefferson, author; Letters from the Head and Heart, Andrew Burstein, Jefferson’s Secrets, Andrew Burstein. One sees most clearly here, how Jefferson formulated his concept of the necessity of separation of church and state.

At various times, the editor will highlight selected Carteret County citizens who are running for public office in Carteret County as well as for offices in our state government TDDAY –

CRAIG LEWIS is standing for Clerk of Court. Craig is currently THE Clerk of Court in Carteret County. Incredibly, he has worked in this one office for 36 years! Craig accepted this position as head of the Clerk of court after serving under the tenure of  his two long serving predecessors, most recently Mrs. Darlene Leonard, who retired in August of 2009; previous to Mrs. Leonard, Mrs. Mary Austin held that same post.

The Clerk of Court Office is tasked with the most profound responsibilities, those being the efficient administration day today of our entire counties courts system. It is one where experience is an absolute necessity in order to deal with the tremendous daily court loads, scheduling, ect.  Craig Lewis has done this admirably and honorably for 36 years. What value does one put on this type of professional experience? Craig also is the probate judge for many civil matters.
